Recommended Matrix Clients

• Sable Web Client. A very nice and familiar web client with modern features. Mostly stable.
• Sable Electron Client. The desktop version of the client above.
• Fluffychat. Probably the best client for the phone.

Alternative Matrix Clients

• Element Web. A very solid and stable web client, but doesn't support custom emojis or stickers. Use this if sable isn't working out for you.
• Element Desktop. The desktop version of the client above.
• Cinny. Good desktop and web client. Sable is a "fork" of this client with more features. Cinny is more stable.
• Commet Chat. Very familiar client and has lots of neat features, but it's a new client and not entirely stable yet.

Jitsi

• Jitsi A web client, but there's also a client for phones. ⬅ This lets you do video calls without an account and without downloading anything.
• Jitsi Electron An unofficial electron client. You need this to do E2EE calls in jitsi.

Creating a Matrix Account

Anyone can use the jitsi, but creating an account on matrix requires you to have received a registration token from someone else on the server. During signup be sure to set "hangout.gay" as your homeserver.

Once on the server, to save yourself from future headaches, please set up recovery in the settings. The best way to do this is via one of the element clients and will require storing a code provided by the client. Also consider exporting your keys. Don't worry too much about what this all means. Each time you set up a new client (the web client counts as one) you will have to prove you are the same person which might involve these keys or codes.

You can also use an account from another server if you want. Join the public room and get invited into our community by someone there.
